I have wanted to shoot woodlands for a while but didn't want to go down the route of "pretty" shots documenting the landscape. I already had an affinity with woodlands and the natural world; having worked, albeit briefly, on the Yorkshire Estate of The late Duchess of Devonshire (and what a character she was!)
The idea behind this (ongoing) project was to shoot woodlands just using in-camera techniques with minimal post processing. For hundreds of years, woodlands have always been great sources of inspiration for writers, artists and poets. They conjure up feelings of magic and mystery. They are inhabited, some say, by Fairies, Goblins, Pixies and Trolls! They contain good and bad spirits.
There are mighty Oaks - strong and powerful; the masters of their realm. There are shady glens with dappled light and deep dark corners where Goblins get up to no good!
Woodlands have it all in all seasons and this is what I wanted to capture. The magic, mystery and might of the British Woodland.
